YOU ARE WHAT YOU ART

Updated: Aug 14, 2019

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

I’m bringing you my "You Are What You Art” Blog;

Books, Music, Talks and Teachings that move me.

Like a lot of people, I gobble up loads of information these days. I can read and listen to and watch just about anything at any time, all while spinning my wheels through the day. But when I try to tell someone about something that really inspired me, I’m often at a loss for words.

I need more headspace to integrate what I’m learning and I need more discipline in articulating what I’m so excited about. So each Sunday from now on I’m going to offer up some musings about a new piece of art I’m discovering.

BOOKS; I’m currently in 2 books clubs. When I joined the first one I hadn’t read fiction since college! Now I find myself looking forward to my bedtime reading ritual all day, and building my home-life schedule around these conversations with other women. One of my book clubs has a social justice focus; and I can't look at the world with the same since since digging into this work.

MUSIC; In all honesty, this is a prompt for me, because I’m missing the days when I listened to music religiously! Maybe it’s getting older, or working in the music business, but I don’t do music the same way as I did in my teens and 20’s; when I hung on every word, played tracks on repeat, and sang along at the top of my lungs. I remember the rooms I was in when I first heard certain albums. There is still powerful music out there, and I’m going to breathe it in more!

TALKS & TEACHINGS; This includes interviews, articles, podcasts, and even online courses that have opened my heart and mind. It’s not uncommon for me to cry at a Ted Talk or an On Being conversation, and these short-form explorations are often more manageable for people to dig into. I’m super inspired to lean how people are using art and artistic expression as healing modalities, and also as means for social change.

So I’m just going to start, next week, and I assume I will get better at it! I really welcome you guys to reply on the work I’m writing on, or to post about something that you've discovered - perhaps something unrelated like a fashionista or a painter that lights a fire in you! The first installment will be coming at you next Sunday. Enjoy!
